There are many tasks that fall under out of band management. These tasks include configuring advertisements and scheduled software update deployments so that the computer wakes up before it runs and reconfiguring BIOS settings. Running commands, diagnostic applications or repair utilities by booting to a command based operating system also falls under this jurisdiction. Booting from a boot image file on either the network or a different server helps the computer re-image if needed. Out of band management also lets the administrator restart a nonfunctioning computer or boot it from a device that is connected locally or a boot image file. These tasks also include powering one or more computers on or off for various reasons.
